The tower which will become Newcastle’s tallest building is to be showcased at one of the world’s premier property events.
Hadrian’s Tower, now under construction just off St. James’ Boulevard, will feature at MIPIM in Cannes, between March 13th and 16th.
The 28th annual event is one of the world’s premier real estate gatherings, attracting the most influential players from all sectors of the international property industry for four days of networking, learning and transactions through premium events, conferences and exhibitions.
This year there will be 24,000 delegates – including around 5,000 investors – and 3,100 exhibitors. And the developer of Hadrian’s Tower – The High Street Group – will be part of the Invest Newcastle delegation to the South of France.
At 26 storeys – 82 meters – tall, the £40 million project will create 162 private rented sector (PRS) apartments, providing homes for up to 456 people. These are anticipated to be young professionals, post graduate students and workers in the adjacent Science Central and university hospitals.
To be constructed on a site in Rutherford Street, currently occupied by a semi-derelict warehouse, the masonry and glazing façade at the lower levels will blend with the existing streetscape and reflect the grade II listed print works building opposite.
At the upper levels, a more vertical style, with steps and cantilevers, will make a real architectural statement. Public viewing from the rooftop – offering panoramic views of the city and even as far as the coast – will be available 18 times each year.

The company will also take the opportunity to promote similar schemes it is developing in Birmingham and Warrington.
In the £1 billion southern gateway regeneration zone of Britain’s second city, a £40.5 million investment in the old Westminster Works will create 253, high quality one and two bedroomed PRS apartments, while £51 million will be spent on a site next to the central station in Warrington to provide a six storey complex of 284 apartments in the regenerated town centre.
With more announced projects in Manchester, Milton Keynes and Salford, as well as others in the pipeline, The High Street Group has PRS work with a gross development value in excess of £300 million on its books.
